Over the air, over and out

ESPN announced Friday that the 2011 Rose Bowl will be on cable instead of ABC. Thus ends tradition.
This New Year's will be the last with the major bowls on over-the-air networks. Fox ends its run broadcasting most of the BCS games, and ABC has the Rose Bowl and national championship at that venue a week later.
The ghosts of Lindsey Nelson calling the Cotton Bowl and Curt Gowdy at the Rose Bowl will be replaced by telecasts on cable. Good for ESPN.
